Kam Duggal
An improvisational painter who has been letting paint find its own way since 2008. He works in Concord, North Carolina, on canvas and board, and often without a brush.

I am an improvisational artist, creating art since 2008 and inspired by the events of my own life.
In each original piece I try to bring out my thoughts in the moment, and push them through the canvas or board with different colours, with and without the use of a brush.
I experiment with the flow of the paint and let each colour mix as it happens. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
Three things in every painting.
Improvisation
No sketch and no plan to copy. Each piece starts from whatever Kam is thinking and feeling that day, and it ends up where the paint takes it.
Flow
Much of the work is made with a brushless flow technique. Paint is poured and guided so the colours meet on their own, leaving veins and cells a brush could never make.
Colour
Acrylic, sometimes with oil, on canvas and board. Flame orange against navy, crimson through silver, gold across black. The colour carries the feeling.

2008
The first canvases
Kam begins painting, drawing on the personal events in his life and whatever the moment brings.

2012
Abhasa, and the big canvases
Abhasa (Reflection of Consciousness), a 36-inch square, and a 48 × 24 inch canvas are both painted in February 2012.

Flow
Going brushless
Poured work on board takes over: the FLP studies, Crimson Currents, Silverlite and Purplerane. The paint does the drawing.

Are these originals or reproductions?
Every painting on this site is an original, one-of-a-kind piece. Reproductions are sold separately as prints, and those are always labelled “Buy a print”.
Where do the prints come from?
Prints and print products are made to order by Pixels, which handles the printing, framing and shipping. The “Buy a print” button on each painting takes you straight to that piece in Kam's shop, where you choose the size and finish.
Why do some paintings say “Price on request”?
Prices for originals are confirmed by Kam directly. Send an inquiry and he'll get back to you with the price and availability.
Do you take commissions?
Ask. Tell Kam the size, the colours you live with and where it will hang. Every piece is improvised, so a commission is a starting point and not a copy of an existing painting.
Can I see a painting in person?
Kam is based in Concord, North Carolina. Mention it in your inquiry and he'll let you know what's possible.
How are originals delivered?
It depends on the size of the piece and where you are. Kam will arrange pickup, delivery or shipping with you once the sale is agreed.
